About Hypnotherapy & NLP

What would you say is holding you back? A phobia? A habit that you would rather not have? Anxiety? Chronic pain?

Hypnotherapy can help with these and many more problems and may well be a good option for you.

It’s my aim to get results for you in as few sessions as possible.

Why? For 2 reasons really…

  1. You get a better version of you quicker, and…
  2. With a positive and fast result, I’m hoping you may tell a friend or 2  to get in touch!

It’s my job to get you out of therapy, not keep you in it.

Here’s another client, telling their story ….

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is a trance-like state in which you have heightened focus and concentration. Our subconscious mind is a massively powerful computer and always serves the positive functions of protecting us and of giving us pleasure.

The problem is, it’s like this computer is being operated by a mischievous toddler! This is why our conscious mind needs to get involved most of the time with its reasoning and logic. The subconscious has no logic, which is why when it’s in control (when we sleep for example) our dreams can be completely illogical and make no sense whatsoever. Ever said to yourself  ‘what was I thinking?’ after making a poor decision or doing something stupid? Yep, you’ve guessed it, it was probably the ‘toddler operators’ fault!

Under hypnosis, we can have a quiet word with this ‘toddler operator’ and ask for new healthy ways to help you. More often than not your subconscious has the answers and can implement them quickly. This is where positive change can be achieved.

Although all hypnosis is, in reality, self hypnosis, hypnotherapy is usually done with the help of a therapist using specific relaxation techniques, verbal repetition and mental images.

Hypnosis is state of intensified attention while being in a perfectly relaxed and meditative state. In this state suggestions can take effect in the unconscious mind which creates incredibly fast positive changes within the client.

Hypnosis is not ‘mind control’ (although I admit Derren Brown and I share a similar hairstyle!)

When in a hypnotic state you will be fully aware of what is happening and can never be made to do something that is against your will. I will not have you ‘cluck like a chicken’ or pretend to be ‘Elvis’ at the click of my fingers unless, of course, that’s what you want!

When working with you I will carefully guide you to help you achieve a relaxed state where positive change can be most effective. You are in control at all times. Put simply, you are the driver, I am your satnav.

We now live in a time where science can effectively observe the mind of a human. In hypnosis we can start to understand what happens to the neuro activity in the brain during a trance state. Science is now supporting what ancient healers knew all along; that the mind can help to heal the body. Finally hypnosis is beginning to play its part in modern medical approaches.

In the hypnotic state you are deeply relaxed. Your conscious mind is quieted allowing your unconscious mind to deeply focus on your issue. You are calmer and therefore more receptive to positive change. You will be able to achieve a state during hypnosis where you can objectively deal with problems without having a panicked reaction.

I will be able to guide you and give your subconscious mind gentle suggestions for positive change which will help you to live the life you want to live.

Modern hypnotherapy has been proven to give many people effective help in many areas including the examples shown on this website, so book a free call and take the first step to a better you!

What Is NLP?

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming.

Neuro means relating to the nervous system. The information we take in through our senses influences our neurological function. If we improve the accuracy with which we take in information, i.e. we listen better and are more observant, we are more open to our own and other people’s feelings. This means our brains have better information to help us make decisions. We also increase our ability to communicate effectively (both consciously and unconsciously).

Linguistic is about language.  As we understand and are more aware of language, the words themselves as well as their structure and the way they are spoken (speed, voice tone, rhythm), we get better information for making decisions and communicating consciously and unconsciously.

Programming here refers to habits. We develop habits, some useful, some less useful. NLP teaches us how we can develop and encourage useful habits and reduce less useful habits.

NLP was originated by John Grinder (whose background was in linguistics) and Richard Bandler (whose background was in mathematics and Gestalt therapy) for the purpose of making explicit models of human excellence.

Their first work The Structure of Magic Vol. I & II (1975, 1976) identified the verbal and behavioural patterns of therapists Fritz Perls (the creator of Gestalt therapy) and Virginia Satir (internationally renowned family therapist). Their next work Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson, M.D. Vol. I & II (1975, 1976) examined the verbal and behavioural patterns of Milton Erickson, founder of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and one of the most widely acknowledged and clinically successful psychiatrists of our times.

By modelling the techniques of ‘the best’, they were able to get results much faster than had previously been possible. Using NLP to create real positive change for clients in a few hours where previously it had taken months of therapy sessions.

Today, NLP is used in a wide variety of fields including counselling, medicine, law, business, the performing arts, sports, the military, politics and education.
